My name is Bjorn Hamso. I’m a Norwegian economist living in Bethesda, Maryland, USA, together with wife Ingrid. After retiring from the World Bank, Washington DC, in 2019, I started spending more time on photography. Making good landscape photos was my intent and still is. However, when photographing in the time of corona, it became clear that I had abundant, colorful, non-moving, and challenging photo motifs all around me - flowers. Going forward I’ll try to make images in several areas of photography.

Why a website for an amateur photographer? Let’s just say it’s vanity. Yet, it’s nice to present photos well when you put sincere efforts into shooting them. Besides, photos with a story are better photos. High-resolution image files are for sale for a token price, and for prints I’ve acquired a professional large-paper printer (Canon PRO-1000). I don’t plan on recovering the cost, but it’s fun to think that one of my photos one day could hang framed on your wall. My current follow-up project is a new woodworking workshop, where I will also make the picture frames. Vertical integration from shooting the photo to hanging it on a wall. Why not?

Canon chose years ago to milk their established (captive) DSLR customer base rather than to innovate. That irked me, so I switched to Sony mirrorless camera.

My gear:

  • Sony Alpha A7R Mark IV

  • Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM lens

  • Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS lens

  • Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS lens
