Murree, Pakistan

I had a Sunday off in Islamabad, Pakistan, and was advised by World Bank Security that it was safe to take car and driver and go to beautiful Murree, a stone’s throw from Kashmir. The small town is placed high up in the mountains with cool, fresh air. I peeked into a side street and shot this photo on my iPhone. The guy must have thought “Sure, I can spruce up your photo”. Not much English spoken.

“India lives in three centuries at the same time,” my Indian engineering friend at the World Bank told me. Even as a frequent visitor to India, it’s hard to fathom how life is for Indians outside the high-tech middle class. A snapshot through a yellow-cab window doesn’t do more than stimulating the imagination. Perhaps the man in the photo plays games on a smartphone when off work. No way I can tell.
